30 pitches by 30
After the great trip to Red Rocks over halloween, I realized I needed to get back into leading trad climbs. The ones where you place your own gear; cams, nuts, hexes. In order to accomplish this goal I have decided to try and lead 30 trad pitches between now and my 30th birthday. This gives me about six months to accomplish my goals. I will be documenting my progress, both here on my blog and with photos on my
flickr page.
It was a great weekend, knocking off some of my trad lead pitches, getting on some hard top-ropes, and having my new J-tree West guidebook signed by the guy whose photo is on the cover (it pays to be in the gear shop at the right time).
After two days (Nov. 14-15) in Joshua Tree I have lead 6 trad pitches:
1.
Worthwhile Pile (5.7), Worthwhile Rock
2.
Pile it Higher and Deeper (5.7), Worthwhile Rock (or the Ph.D. climb as I like to refer to it)
3.
Almost Vertical (5.7), Thin Wall
4. Pitch 1 of
Dappled Mare (5.8), Lost Horse Wall
5. Pitch 2 of
Dappled Mare (5.8), Lost Horse Wall
6. Pitch 4 of
Dappled Mare (5.8), Lost Horse Wall

Its been awhile
Its been awhile since I last posted anything here, but for what its worth I have finally put some new photos up on
flickr from a climbing trip to red rocks. This trip occurred over Halloween, and I don't think you'll be disappointed in the costumes.

My first summer as a doctor has been a busy one. Jill, Pete, Sean and I met up in Seattle before venturing off to attempt the Wonderland Trail. We were thwarted early on when the ranger warned us of "treacherous conditions." With the warnings of the ranger in mind, we decided to pursue a less harrowing adventure. Off we went to Seattle, then to the Olympic Coast, capped off with amazing sea kayaking on the San Juan Islands. Please head over to my flickr site to see
photos from this trip.
Of course, those photos should have been posted long ago. But hey, I've been lazy and moving to San Diego to start a new job. The impetus to get those photos up came because I just purchased myself a brand new lens. For all you camera geeks out there, its amazing and I had been thneeding it (thinking I needed it- help spread this word) for quite some time. I purchased myself Nikon's 17-55mm f/2.8 lens. So far I love it. To christen this new lens I went off and explored my new stomping grounds. First the lens photographed my fish, then it was off to Coronado, followed by a trip to the Cabrillo National Monument. Enjoy the
photos!

In the past 5 days I have been in 4 states. 3 of the states were work related, but 1 was for pleasure. Over the 4th of July I was in Montana to witness Jeff and Shannon's wedding. Please check out photos from Yellowstone a big sky over on my
flickr page.
