weekend in santa barbara
I am mostly posting to let you know that there are even more pictures under the
new toy gallery. I must say it was a great weekend, perhaps since it was my first in Santa Barbara in awhile. I enjoyed running, biking, climbing, and eating breakfast out two days in a row. Enjoy the photos!

my new toy
For quite some time now I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a digital SLR. Today was the day. I broke open my piggy bank and I headed to the camera store. I'm now the proud owner of a Nikon D70. I played with it a bit today, and you can see the results in the
gallery.
Also, since I'm too lazy to update the previous post. Here's a picture of the damage Tang (my fixed gear) did to one of my trusty trailrunners.

what happens when a fixed gear meets shoelaces
Last night I was biking home from school as I tend to do, when all of a sudden I realized my right shoe was becoming quite tight on my foot. I immediately realized that this was due to my shoe lace having been caught on some rotating portion of my bike. Now if you don't know, there is no coasting on a fixed gear, if you are moving the pedals are spinning. I tried to stop as quickly as possible using my front brake (I only have one) and back pressure on the pedals. Finally I come to a stop and step off my bike. However, my right foot was quite pinned to the bike. I will try and post a picture later, but the shoelaces ripped through three of the grommets that the shoe laces through. Finally I managed to sit down on the bike path and wrench my foot out of the shoe, which was not the most pleasant experience. Then I was able to remove my shoe from the bike, placed it in my messenger bag and biked the remained 3 miles of my 3.5 mile commute with one shoe on and one shoe off.
While looking through pictures of my bike when I was putting it together I found the following photo of the shoe that has now been destroyed and the bike not yet put together. I wonder if they exchanged some words there, that caused the bike (Tang) to destroy it last night. Any ideas how that conversation went? Perhaps my running shoes don't like that I have gotten more into biking and therfore don't wear them as much.

apologies
I apologize for not posting sooner, but things have been busy. Please head over to the
photos section to see pictures from my trip to
San Diego the first weekend in May. There are pictures from the Zoo!
Also, I just got back from Yosemite where we celebrated my Dad's 60th birthday. Those
pictures are also posted.
